Landscape Masterplan, Detailed Design and creation of a prestigious Country Estate.
Winner of the BALI Grand Award
We were commissioned to design the masterplan for a 45 acre private Estate in Berkshire. Our role included the preparation of all details, planting designs and specifications required to realise the scheme. We then arranged procurement of contractors and managed the delivery of the project on site.
The new areas of garden include: formal terraces with box parterre hedging, fountains and rills; an extensive Rock Garden complete with shell grotto and water cascades; a Rose Garden with lily pool and oak pergolas; a labyrinth formed in Yew hedging and a grand stone staircase leading down to the lakes. Moving further from the house, the design becomes more informal, incorporating an extensive wild flower meadow flanked by existing woodland which was cleared of invasive rhododendron ponticum and replanted with specimen trees and shrubs.
A primary goal of our Master Plan was to improve cohesion. We created a network of interconnecting paths to link the new gardens and features distributed throughout the grounds. A huge number of new trees and shrubs were planted to enhance these walks, defining spaces more clearly and articulating or framing views. The resulting gardens now reveal themselves gradually and the new planting framework serves to increase the perceived size of the Estate.
The enormous scale of this project took more than five years to complete and we continue to advise on the ongoing maintenance of the gardens.
“….a landscaped garden of exceptional quality. The mixture of hard & soft elements, including an extensive system of paths and hard surfaced areas exhibit a wide variety of materials, all laid to an exceptionally high standard. . . This is a magnificent scheme. . . and is a worthy recipient of this year’s Grand Award”
